2018 Summer Writing Retreat Housing

For this year’s Summer Writing Retreat, we have two great housing options for our attendees.

THE FREDONIA HOTEL

Our group block at The Fredonia Hotel – a gorgeous property that’s walking distance from the downtown square – has a special rate of $99/night (+ tax). You can read more about the hotel on their website (thefredonia.com), but amenities include two swimming pools and some lovely outdoor spaces, a modern fitness room, mini refrigerators in the rooms, and complimentary wifi. Breakfast is not included with your reservation. Note: There is no elevator in the terrace section of the hotel (where the group room block is located), so please do request a room on the ground floor if you are unable to use the stairs.

CLICK ON THIS LINK TO RESERVE A ROOM AT THE FREDONIA HOTEL AT THE GROUP RATE.

You can also call the hotel directly at 936-564-1234 and tell them you are with the Writers’ League of Texas group. If you 'd like to reserve your room for dates before and after the retreat, we suggest calling the hotel directly. Our group rate will be honored for up to 3 days prior and 3 days post retreat for any reservations made before end of day, July 16. After July 16, the hotel will be charging its regular rate for any bookings.

CAMPUS HOUSING

If you’d like to stay on campus (walking distance to our classroom space) and/ or are budget conscious, the Stephen F. Austin State University residential housing is a great option. You can choose from a private suite ($295 total, 7/29-8/3) or a shared suite ($245 total, 7/29-8/3, with your own private room and shared bathroom, kitchen, and living space). Both include a parking pass and one meal (lunch) in the cafeteria. Each of the dorm suites has a kitchen.

Registration for on campus housing closes at midnight on Monday, July 16. After that date, call the WLT directly and we will do our best to accommodate you.

We have rooms reserved in the Lumberjack Lodge (more information, including photos can be found here). If you choose to stay in the residence hall, remember that this is a dormitory and you’ll need to bring some things (including sheets, pillows, towels, toiletries, and any kitchen supplies) with you. Also – VERY IMPORTANT – SFA is an alcohol-free campus. There are no exceptions to this – do not bring alcohol into the residence hall (this will be strictly enforced and violations will result in removal from the hall with no refund).

If you have questions on either of these options, please do reach out and we’ll be happy to help.
