Whether you are thinking about becoming a writer, or are living the writer’s life but need a booster shot, this full-day intensive workshop offers abundant ideas, tools and inspiration for turning desire into flow, and flow into finished manuscripts.

Taught by essayist, journalist and four-book author Ann McCutchan, a professor of creative writing at the University of North Texas, “Choosing the Writing Life” addresses three critical components of the writer’s way: self-knowledge, commitment, and practice.

Topics include: developing a personal writing schedule, building technique, seizing ripe opportunities, and more. With more than twenty-five years' experience as a writing teacher, coach, and results-oriented workshop leader, McCutchan knows how to offer fresh, insightful, practical approaches to creating a “best life” as a writer.

This class is perfect for:

  • Writers wanting to establish a consistent, realistic routine
  • Writers seeking a creative boost
  • Writers searching for publishing opportunities

Please bring:

  • Writing materials
  • A book by a favorite author
  • An adventurous spirit

Expect to work hard. Expect to be surprised.

About the instructor:

Ann McCutchan's work springs from deep interests in the arts, nature, and creativity, and the ways they shape individuals, places, and history. Her books include a biography of French flute virtuoso Marcel Moyse and a volume of interviews with composers about the creative process. In 2011, she published two titles: Circular Breathing: Meditations From a Musical Life (personal essays) and River Music: An Atchafalaya Story, an eco-biography of Louisiana musician Earl Robicheaux and the Atchafalaya River Basin. Ann is currently writing Where's the Moon? a memoir of Florida during the Space Race, and a biography of author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.
