Summer Writing Retreat On-Campus Housing

For this year’s Summer Writing Retreat, we have two great housing options for our attendees. On this page, you can reserve campus housing. For details on The Fredonia Hotel, our other option, click here.

NOTE: Registration for on campus housing closes at midnight on Monday, July 16. After that date, call the WLT directly and we will do our best to accommodate you.

If you’d like to stay on campus (walking distance to our classroom space) and/ or are budget conscious, the Stephen F. Austin State University residential housing is a great option. You can choose from a private suite ($295 total, 7/29-8/3) or a shared suite ($245 total, 7/29-8/3, with your own private room and shared bathroom, kitchen, and living space). Both include a parking pass and one meal (lunch) in the cafeteria. Each of the dorm suites has a itchen.

We have rooms reserved in the Lumberjack Lodge (more information, including photos can be found here).
If you’re opting to stay on campus in the residence hall we’ve reserved for the event, here are a few things to keep in mind:


  • Please bring with you: sheets, pillows, towels, toiletries, and any kitchen supplies you might need (including pots and pans, utensils, etc). The dorm suites have kitchens (including a full sized fridge and microwave), but they are not stocked with anything beyond appliances.
  • Absolutely NO ALCOHOL is permitted on campus, including in the residence hall. Please do not violate this rule, you will jeopardize your own housing spot as well as the entire group’s reservation.
  • Your campus housing reservation includes a parking pass for one vehicle (parking regulations will be enforced during the week; be mindful of parking signs and only park in spots that are not reserved for faculty and other officials).
  • Your campus housing reservation includes a meal card (you will also use this card to access the residence hall) and a meal plan with LUNCH included. (Information on the location of the cafeteria and hours of operation for lunch will be provided at the SWR orientation meeting.)

If you are opting for a SHARED SUITE and you already know who you will be sharing with, please email that information to Becka Oliver asap: Both of you will need to purchase the shared suite reservation. If you are hoping to share a suite but do not have a roommate in mind, we will reach out to you closer to the event to pair you with someone.

 If you pay for a reservation and decide to cancel before end of day, July 16, you will receive a full refund minus a $50 cancellation fee. If you pay for a reservation and change your mind after July 16, there are no refunds.
