Today’s writer can take control of their writing career, side-step the gatekeepers, directly appeal to their potential readership, and define their own success. Yet the journey to a successful self-publishing career can be difficult and oftentimes confusing. As more writers find success self-publishing, more and more companies hawking overpriced self-publishing packages have been preying on the hopes of potential self-publishers and delivering dismal results. How can you avoid self-publishing pitfalls and successfully publish your book?

This class will help writers create their own success with a comprehensive look on how self-publishing works from the very first step of preparing a manuscript for publication, creating buzz for the upcoming book, publishing in various formats (ebook, paperback, audiobook,) and promoting the final product to potential readers.

The class will not only provide a comprehensive overview of the self-publishing process, but will concentrate on creating a publishing plan for each student.

This one day class will help you:

Understand the reality of self-publishing and what to expect
How to avoid scams
Prepare your book for publication affordably and professionally
Draw up a marketing campaign that will work for you and fit your budget
Create a platform that will connect you to your chosen audience
Define your own success and set realistic goals

Rhiannon Frater originally self-published her zombie trilogy As The World Dies in 2008 and was offered a three-book deal with Tor in 2010. The first book in the series, The First Days, received a starred review from Publishers Weekly. All three books of the series have been released in both trade paperback and mass market paperback. Her self-published book, The Last Bastion of the Living was declared the #1 Zombie Book Release of 2012 by Barnes & Noble Explorations. All her novels (self-published and traditionally published) have been optioned for TV and film.

Rhiannon’s career has given her a unique perspective on self-publishing versus traditional publishing. She continues to be a hybrid writer, both self-publishing and traditionally publishing. She recently signed a contract with Tor for a new novel to be released in 2014 entitled
Dead Spots. She has been writing full-time since 2011.

Rhiannon has a writing blog and a strong social media presence on Twitter and Facebook.
