Finally--a chance to learn grammar in a way that is practical and memorable.

Are you tired of apologizing for your lack of syntactical savvy? Sick of crying in your commas, panicking over prepositions, and second-guessing your sentences? It’s not too late to become a confident writer! Join us as we ditch the sentence diagrams and MLA handbooks to focus exclusively on the grammar issues that are relevant for storytellers of all stripes – in a fun, fearless, fast-paced workshop guaranteed to leave you feeling empowered and inspired!

  • You wish you understood grammar better but don't want the usual, tedious grammar instruction.
  • You're finishing a draft that you will send to agents or editors.
  • You want to improve the sentence-level quality of your writing.

  • "Hilariously entertaining; super smart; pre-anticipated tons of questions."
  • "The instructor made boring grammar and punctuation very funny to learn."
  • "Tons of logical, common-sense rules-of-thumb will probably now be embedded forever."

Tex Thompson is an instructor for the Writers Path at SMU and the author of the internationally-published Children of the Drought series. She is also the founder and 'chief instigator' for WORD - Writers Organizations 'Round Dallas. When she's not leading the charge at home in Dallas, Tex brings her particular brand of 'red-penthusiasm' to conferences, conventions, and workshops all over the country.

Our classes offer a combination of lecture and practical exercises, determined by the individual instructor, on focused aspects of the craft and business of writing. Your fellow participants will come from a range of writing experience, from beginners to people with MFA degrees and published books. WLT instructors, participants, and administrators all work together to create a welcoming, supportive environment.

If you haven't taken a class with us in recent years, feel free to give us a call at 512-499-8914 if you'd like to discuss whether our programming is the right fit for your needs.
