12/3/2019 From 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM

One of Austin's most beloved reading series - One Page Salon - is teaming up with the Writers' League of Texas for a special evening of quick readings, slow drinking, and lots of literary shenanigans.

One Page Salon (called "the best literary evening in town" by the Austin American-Statesman) is the brainchild of novelist, screenwriter, and comedian Owen Egerton.
Four outstanding writers (who have all participated in WLT programs in the past year) will read one page from a work in progress.

The brilliant and funny (and brilliantly funny) Owen Egerton will emcee (with special appearances from your friendly WLT staffers), and there will be a cash bar plus tacos from Pueblo Viejo, one of the best taco places in Austin.

During the course of the evening, writers will read a single page from a work in progress (goodbye, literary readings that go on and on and on) and answer three questions from the hosts (hello, witty banter with the incomparable Owen Egerton). Midway through, there's a break for eating (tacos!), drinking (the cash bar will have beer, soda, and more), and talking (this. is. the. best. part.).

Laurie Filipelli is a poet, writer, and educator. She is the author of two collection of poems, Elseplace (Brooklyn Arts Press, 2013), and the 2019 Writers’ League of Texas Discovery Prize winner, Girl Paper Stone (Black Lawrence Press 2018). Her work has appeared in various literary journals, but she is most proud of her very first publication, a poem stapled in large cut-out letters to her school's bulletin board when she was in second grade.

Sherry Thomas is the author of nineteen novels across multiple genres, including the acclaimed Lady Sherlock mystery series, a YA fantasy trilogy that began with The Burning Sky, and more than a dozen romance novels, which have twice won her the Romance Writers of America's prestigious RITA(R) Award. Born in China, she learned English as a second language.

Formerly a bookseller at Malvern Books, and the Member Services Manager for the Writers’ League of Texas, Kelsey Williams now works on staff at Kirkus Reviews. Her work has been published in multiple zines, and is forthcoming in the second volume of the I Scream Social Anthology series. She lives and works in Austin, TX.

One person from the audience will have the opportunity to read one page of their work. If you're interested, bring the page and grab a lottery ticket when you arrive. We'll also be bringing back, by popular demand, the One Sentence Salon (what?? How can there be so much fun had in one night??  Impossible!)

Come for the tacos and beer, stay for the sneak peek at some terrific writings-in-progress from some awesome writers. We hope to see you there!
