Whether you are writing a love story or your book has a romantic subplot, writing love scenes can be daunting. How much detail? What terminology? Should I imply or describe?  Is a sex scene necessary?

In this class, Patricia Walters Fisher - author of Weighting for Mr. Right and head of the group S.A.R.A. (San Antonio Romance Authors), will give tips and prompts that will help you craft the right love scenes for your novel. Learn how to stay true to your story and characters and capture your audience without making them roll their eyes.

Topics covered will include...

  • a discussion of terminology and a review of the market's do's and don'ts of writing romantic scenes

  • ways to avoid preconceived notions, avoid self-censorship, and let the true story unfold without fear

  • the anatomy of a romantic scene - how "spicy" should they be for your book?

  • understanding your characters' motivations

  • sex vs. sexual tension - and what is better for your story?

  • practical writing prompts to help attendees to be more comfortable with the idea of writing sex and sexual tension

Patricia W. Fischer -- During her journey to be a full-time storyteller, Patricia made several stops along the way to be a waitress, bartender, bill-collector, bank teller, clerk at Blockbuster Video, dishwasher, prep-cook, a wanna be crypto-zoologist, and finally settling in as a pediatric and adult trauma/critical care nurse for 10 years before starting her career as a journalist/writer. Now, she spends her time in front of a keyboard, coming up with entertaining stories to pay for her buying too many books habit and the endless cups of coffee she drink on a daily basis. She's also the president of San Antonio Romance Authors. The first book of her Tuscany, Texas series, Deep in My Heart is now available, along with the romantic comedy Weighting for Mr. Right. Patricia's short erotica, A Naked Holiday (under pen name Mystique Devereaux) is available through Amazon.
