Summer Writing Retreat

Every year, we host a workshop that brings between 60 and 100 writers to a tranquil location in Texas -- be that Alpine or Nacogdoches; East or West Texas or someplace in the middle. If you've ever wanted to step away from the constant distractions of everyday life and spend a week with your fellow writers immersed in your craft and drawing inspiration from the literary community, our annual Summer Writing Retreat is your chance.

Of course, these days, it's a bit more challenging to "step away." Just a few months ago, we expected to have our bags packed by now and one foot out the door, headed for beautiful Kerrville, TX. We hosted the 2019 Summer Writing Retreat there and had every intention of returning this summer. That was then, this is now.

We may not be heading to Kerrville, but we can still get away - and we really hope you'll join us for the 2020 Summer Writing Retreat.

In August, all month long, we'll be hosting four weeks of writing and learning and gathering and more. We have three terrific classes to choose from, plus our Write Away option (for those who want less talking, more writing). Regardless of which option you choose, you'll have plenty of opportunities to get to know fellow writers, enjoy some fun & games, and just generally spend as much or as little of the month as you'd like stepping away from it all, at home.

Here's how it works:

Choose one class (or the Write Away option). Each class will meet once a week for four sessions total.

Register for Level 1 (Class Only) or Level 2 (Class + Consultation). Level 2 (Class + Consultation) registrations will be capped at 20 total for each class and will include one 20-minute consultation with the class instructor sometime during the month (you'll be able to share 10 pages of your work for feedback, if you'd like).

Every registrant will also have access to a weekly meet-up (a chance to connect with fellow writers in small group breakouts) as well as access to the weekly live webinars.

How the consultations work:

Before the first day of class, all registrants who opt for a consultation will be sent a simple form to fill out identifying available times between first day of class and last day of class. You'll also be asked to submit your 10 pages for review (if you opt to have pages reviewed ahead of the consultation).

Based on available times, a schedule will be created and the assigned consultation times will be shared with each registrant.

Each consultation will be a private Zoom meeting between the instructor and registrant. 20 minutes in length.

This 20 minute consultation will be time to use as you'd like. If you have shared pages, you can expect verbal feedback from the instructor on those pages. If you have specific craft questions you'd like to ask, you can use the time for that. The instructor won't be able to read anything presented at the consultation, so it's important that you opt to submit pages ahead of time if you want feedback on material.
